Einstein Dog Training has created the Pets for Vets Program to bring dogs and people together!

Our mission is to match the dogs and people that need each other the most. We pull homeless dogs from local shelters and rescues, and give them the training they need to become an emotional support animal or PTSD service dog, and donate them to US Military Veterans, living in Oakland, Genesee, Shiawassee, and Livingston Counties.

Dogs selected to participate in the Pets for Vets Program are healthy, up to date on vaccinations, and have been spayed/neutered and microchipped. The selected dogs live with our professional trainers where they learn household and public manners, basic obedience, and other skills needed in an emotional support dog or service dog. We match our dogs to veterans living with mental health diagnosis, such as; Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety, and Depression. We match Veterans to dogs with the temperament and personality best suited to each other. We want to ensure that our dogs find their forever home with a Veteran who is able to meet their daily needs, provide ongoing training, and meet basic health and nutrition needs of the dog.

The process starts with veterans completing our Pets for Vets application. Once the application is received, we reach out to get to know the Veteran better. We ask Veterans questions about themselves, their needs, and their expectations in a pet. We want to know about the Veteran’s lifestyle, interests, mental health treatment needs, household members, and where the dog will be living.

The Pets for Vets application process includes:

  • A completed application

  • Phone and in-person interviews with the veteran

  • In-person interviews with all household members

  • A home study in the Veteran’s home

  • A letter of recommendation or approval from your physician and/or mental health provider

  • Reference and criminal background check

  • A copy of your DD-214

If you meet the criteria for one of our dogs, please fill out the application below**

**NOTE: please answer truthfully, certain questions have no right or wrong answer, they’ll give us help deciding which dog will be best matched to your home and needs.
